How to Calculate a Discount

Calculating a percentage discount is simple. Multiply the original price by the discount percentage, then subtract the result from the original price to get the sale price.

Final Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount% ÷ 100)

For example, if an item costs $100 and has a 10% discount: $100 × (1 − 10/100) = $100 × 0.90 = $90.00. You save $10.00!

Our calculator does this math instantly for any price and discount combination. Just enter the original price and discount percentage above, and the result updates in real-time — no need to press a button.

Frequently Asked Questions

Multiply the price by 0.10 to get the discount amount, then subtract from the original. For example, 10% off $50 = $50 × 0.10 = $5 discount, so you pay $45.
Final Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount% ÷ 100). The savings = Original Price × Discount% ÷ 100.
Calculate the final price for each. For example, 20% off $80 = $64 while 15% off $75 = $63.75 — the second deal is better.
Stacked discounts apply sequentially. 10% then 20% off $100: first gives $90, second gives $90 × 0.80 = $72. This differs from a single 30% off ($70).
