Direct Booking vs OTA

Booking directly with the hotel often gives you the member discount AND loyalty points. OTAs (Expedia, Booking.com) may show lower rates, but you typically can't stack member discounts and you earn no loyalty points.

Rule of thumb: If the OTA price is more than 10% cheaper than the direct rate, use the OTA. Otherwise, book direct for the perks.

Stacking Hotel Discounts

Most hotel chains don't allow stacking loyalty + AAA + promo codes. However, you can often stack: loyalty member rate + credit card hotel benefit, or AAA rate + credit card points. Always compare the total effective rate including rewards value.

Frequently Asked Questions

At $200/night with 10% off, AAA saves $20/night. The $56–$180 annual fee pays for itself in 3–9 hotel nights. If you stay 5+ nights per year in hotels, it's almost always worth it — plus you get roadside assistance and other perks.
Most hotel chains require you to choose one rate: member rate, AAA rate, or promo rate. However, you can often combine a member rate with credit card hotel perks (like Amex Fine Hotels) or use a loyalty member rate and still earn points and status credits.
Often yes. Hotels typically offer their best rate guarantee to direct bookers. A 10% loyalty discount booked direct usually matches or beats OTA prices, plus you get flexible cancellation, room upgrade potential, and loyalty points that OTA bookings don't earn.
